VOKSEE You: The Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship
At VOKSEE, a huge part of our mission is to do our part to make the world a better place, whether a grand gesture or a small nudge. We’ve started a monthly series, VOKSEE You, where we’ll be sharing resources for all you aspiring writers and filmmakers that may help bring your story to the forefront of the media.
We know how hard it can be to creatively execute while searching for the next opportunity, submission, training, or class. So, we’d like to do some of that work for you.
First up, we have the 2022 Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship at the Sundance Film Festival. It’s no secret that winning a fellowship can be a game-changing opportunity for any writer or filmmaker, and one with Cassian Elwes (Mudbound, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, and Dallas Buyers Club) is one to consider. Here’s what you need to know:
Two winners will be selected to travel to Park City, UT (depending on current CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19) to hang out with Elwes himself. If COVID-19 is still impacting travel (fingers crossed that it won’t), Fellowship recipient(s) will receive a pass to the modified 2022 Sundance Film Festival nearest to their residence.
Here are the important dates (write these down!):
Evaluations purchased before midnight on October 1, 2021, will be guaranteed consideration.
Submissions must be in by November 15, 2021, and are made via BlackList. At that time, the Black List will choose ten screenplays to move forward for Elwes’s consideration.
Here are the requirements you have to meet to submit your script:
You identify as an underrepresented gender (women, NB/GNC, and/or trans, and others)
You must post a feature length script on www.blcklst.com (“Site”) for at least one week during the Program Submission Period and opt in to the Program Submission Call.
Such script must be original to you.
You must be the sole and exclusive author of the script submitted for consideration.
You must be competent to contract and over the age of 18.
You must not have earned more than $5,000 in the aggregate in connection with any prior script writing work (whether for features or television).
A one page biography and personal statement, resume, contact and other personal information, and signed originals of the Submission A
Once you’re ready to submit, head over to BlackList’s registration site.
We hope that this serves as a resource for you and any filmmakers and writers in your circle. Placing in a screenwriting contest or competition can be a huge step for your professional film or screenwriting career, so it’s time to gather up the courage, take a few deep breaths, and hit submit. We believe in you!
